The fast commences during the dawn and closes during the dusk. Puja is done both in the morning and evening. Typically, this can be observed for six months continuously starting from the Tamil Months of Adi and Thai. Observing the vrat for 12 years continuously is said to bestow the devotees with the incomparable great fortune of having the vision of Lord Subrahmanya. The vrat consists of total abstinence from food and if strict vrat is not possible, the devotee can take some fruits and milk offered to the Lord.
Masik Karthigai vrat cleanses the system and cures incurable diseases. The devotee obtains a clear vision in life and achieves protection against the evil and enemies with the grace of Lord Subrahmanya. Visiting the temples of Lord Subrahmanya on Masik Karthigai can give added benefits. All pujas and vrat addressed to Lord Muruga can automatically win the blessings of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati also. Therefore the Masik Karthigai Vrat is considered highly efficacious from several points of view.

The post Krithigai Puja (கார்த்திகை பூஜை) first appeared on K.V.S.

Shivaratri Pooja

Shivaratri Pooja has been given tremendous significance in Hindu mythology. It is said that ritual worship of Lord Shiva on a Shivaratri day pleases Lord Shiva the most. Devotees further believe that by pleasing Lord Shankara on the auspicious Shivaratri day, a person is absolved of past sins and is blessed with Moksha or salvation.

Merits of Shivaratri Puja

According to Shiva Purana, sincere worship of Lord Shiva yields merits including spiritual growth for the devotees. It also provides extensive details on the right way to perform Shivratri Puja.

Besides, worship of Lord Shiva on Shivratri is also considered to be extremely beneficial for women. While, married women pray to Shiva for the well being of their husbands and sons, unmarried women pray for a husband like Shiva, who is considered to be the ideal husband.

The post Sivarathti Puja (சிவராத்திரி பூஜை) first appeared on K.V.S.

Pradosh fast is observed by people on the 13th day of the lunar calendar which is also known as the Trayodashi tithi…most commonly known as the maas Shivratri, of the Krishna Paksha and Shukla Paksha, as per which, Pradosh comes twice in a month. As the name suggests, Pradosh has two meanings…it literally means removal of sins and secondly, its the Dusk time more commonly known as the Godhuli…a time period of about 3hours, divided into 1.5hrs before the sunset and 1.5hrs after sunset that’s known as the Pradosh Kaal.
As we all know that during Samudra Manthan, the venom that came out along with the the Amrit was taken by lord Bholenath and Ma Parvati kept Her hand on His neck to prevent that lethal poison to enter His body, that turned the color of His throat blue after which Bholenath was also called Neelkantha. Post that event, Devas and Asuras got the Amrit along with new life to the universe. They all in the happiness and festivity forgot to thank Lord Shiva. But on the thirteenth day (Trayodashi), they realized their mistake and asked for mercy. Lord Shiva forgave them and celebrations continued. It is believed that that time was Pradosham.

The post Pradosham Puja (பிரதோஷ பூஜை) first appeared on K.V.S.

Shasti or ‘Sasthi’ is a promising day for Hindus having a place with the Tamil people group. This day is devoted to adoring Lord Murugan. Shasti is seen on the 6th day of each lunar fortnight, that is, Shukla Paksha (the waxing period of moon) and Krishna Paksha (the time of disappearing period of moon) of each lunar month in the conventional Hindu schedule. Hence there are two events of Shasti consistently. In any case, Shasti that falls amid the Krishna Paksha is related with Lord Subrahmanya or Lord Murugan. On this day Muruga enthusiasts watch fasting to satisfy their master and summon His endowments for a glad and prosperous life.

The post Sasti Puja (சஷ்டி பூஜை) first appeared on K.V.S.
